What if you make a bold decision to leave behind your regular life and choose the vast sea as your permanent home. Well, that’s exactly what John and Melody Hennessee did!

Even though they are 76 and 64 years old, this Floridian couple decided to sell almost everything they owned, including their house and business. Three years ago, they hit the road in a motorhome to explore the United States.

But fate had a different plan for them when they discovered a Facebook ad for a 274-day cruise with Royal Caribbean, kickstarting an incredible adventure.

Right now, the Hennessees are sailing near the Dominican Republic, exploring far-off places like Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. Their choice to live on cruise ships isn’t just about the thrill of travel; it’s also about leading a more budget-friendly lifestyle.

Saving money is a big part of John and Melody’s sea adventure. By not having a mortgage, vehicle insurance, property insurance, or utility bills, their cost of living has dropped a lot.

According to John, “We now have a telephone bill, a ship bill, and a few credit card bills for when we go ashore, but that’s it. Right now, it is probably close to half of what it was when we lived on land.”

Planning the Epic Journey

Their life at sea is carefully planned, month by month, as they jump from one ship to another. Currently, they’re booked until December 2024, with their eyes set on Villa Vie’s residential cruise ship.

This special ship promises to circle the world every three years, attracting people who want a permanent life at sea. John and Melody are looking forward to turning an inside cabin into their home for at least 15 years.

Villa Vie is no ordinary cruise ship; it offers a unique way of living. The couple imagines a cabin bigger than the usual cruise ship rooms, complete with a kitchenette and a pull-down bed for guests in the living room. Villa Vie aims to provide a comfortable and personalized living space.

While most cruisers are Americans, Villa Vie is changing things up by welcoming its first British couple.

This residential cruise ship not only lets people live there permanently but also allows them to bring their families for free, with some conditions. It even has a business center and private offices for digital nomads, letting them work from anywhere in the world.

The Visionary Behind the Adventure

Mikael Petterson, the CEO and founder of Villa Vie’s Odyssey, has a grand vision for the ultimate world cruise.

The ship, undergoing a multi-million-pound transformation, plans to set sail in May 2024 from Southampton, New York.

Petterson wants to create an unmatched cruising experience where the ship never stops, offering an everlasting journey around the world.

A Seafaring Community

With an average resident age of nearly 60, Villa Vie takes care of its residents. The ship has a dentist and doctor for regular procedures, along with a hospital and a two-person morgue for more serious health concerns.

It caters to singles, business owners, and those who can work remotely, creating a diverse and lively community at sea.
