A Stray Dog Sought Shelter In The Winter Cold And Found Comfort On The Porch Of A Friendly Stranger.

During the bitter cold of December last year, residents of St. Louis, Missouri, fled inside as winter took hold of the city. However, a dedicated, homeless dog had no sanctuary on a freezing day. The abandoned dog chose the doormat of a stranger to use as a bed, lying up to protect itself from the chilly concrete and the wind that would not stop. The touching experience was posted on Facebook by Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL).

When the caring eyewitness saw that Gasper was the friendly stray, they immediately called SRSL. The skilled rescue crew quickly arrived and noted Gasper’s calmness. They quickly put a leash on him and coaxed him off the porch, proving that the dog cooperated in the rescue.

Upon reaching the shelter, Gasper’s genuine sweetness unfolded. SRSL expressed, “When back at Stray Rescue, we found this gentle old soul yearning for affection.” The discovery highlighted Gasper’s affectionate nature, revealing a lovable side that endeared him to the rescuers.

The Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) veterinary staff identified Gasper as roughly eight years old after a thorough medical checkup. Gasper was tired from living outside, yet he appreciated his newfound existence. SRSL noted, “Whenever we interact with him, he stretches, falls from his bed, and gracefully surrenders to the soothing massage with closed eyes.” This is an adorable way to show someone you care about him.

After several days of tender touches and cuddles, Gasper felt visibly better. The elderly dog quickly showed off his puppy side, making kissing noises and showing a special affection for big tennis balls. Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) mentioned that he is an enthusiastic learner who leans into you with appreciation when getting pets.

Even after being saved for a few weeks, Gasper is still looking for a home. Gasper has lumps on his skin, but Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) wanted to find him a home. They were searching for a foster or adoptive family, saying that even though Gasper is called hospice, there’s no rush. With the right family, Gasper could have more good years ahead in a loving home.

Though SRSL thinks there are perfect families, Gasper has yet to find him. They cannot wait for the day Gasper moves into the house of his dreams. They will continue the love that this strong boy has to provide in the meantime. “He’s so cute!” SRSL said on Facebook.
